Hawthorne neighborhoodContract with Brakins Homes, Inc. to support the construction of three new homes at 3019 Dupont, 2219 N. 3rd and 2939 Bryant as part of the Lot Reduction Program. This contract also contains matching MCDA LRP funds. -
Brakins Homes Inc – $50,171
Hawthorne neighborhoodContract with Brakins Homes, Inc. to support the construction of four new single family homes as part of the Lot Reduction Program (LRP) in Hawthorne. Properties supported by this contract include 2922 Lyndale, 2218 6th and 2201 4th. The contract also contains an equal amount of MCDA LRP funds. -

The overall loan includes $788,000 of 2002-2003 HOME Program Funds and $188,000 of NRP Affordable Housing Reserve Funds for a total of $976,000. -
Minneapolis Renters CoalitionCorcoran Neighborhood Association reported on the work of the Minneapolis Renters Coalition, formed through an alliance of neighborhood organizations to ensure that renters voices are heard. The Minneapolis Renters Coalition responded to the housing crisis faced by residents living in buildings owned by Steve Frenz.

Community Health DialoguesHawthorne Neighborhood Council organized a series of neighborhood cafés on community health and well being. The dialogues were documented with video, and one of the outcomes was a home remedies book that encouraged exercise and healthy eating, and promoted home grown vegetables.

Organics RecyclingTangletown Neighborhood Association reported on their work, like Armatage, to support the City’s organic recycling program. TNA and Lynnhurst Neighborhood Association held a joint kick-off event attended by more than 250 residents.

Quincy Street Task ForceLogan Park Neighborhood Association embarked on a process to bring residents and local businesses together for a first-of-a-kind community driven process to develop plans for the historic Quincy Street and several attached streets that have a unique character, including brick streets, warehouses, and many unique businesses that include breweries, art galleries, and many businesses in the creative industries.

Supporting our NeighborsSeward Neighborhood Group reported on their partnership with Bethany Lutheran Church, the Council on American Islamic Affairs (CAIR), Augsburg Church and the Police Department to help educate neighbors about the significance of Ramadan and help connect the diverse cultures of the neighborhood.

Input at Neighborhood Board MeetingsFor 2016, Eighty-eight percent of Minneapolis neighborhood organizations reported providing time at board meetings for community members and stakeholders to ask questions or raise issues.

East Phillips SummerfestEast Phillips Improvement Corporation started their annual Summerfest in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city. They organize the event in partnership with other local organizations such as Holy Rosary Church and East Phillips Park.

Central Avenue ImprovementsAudubon, Holland and Windom Park invested NRP funds in pedestrian lighting for Central Avenue, a Business Watch Program to keep crime down, and banners with a new Central Avenue logo. Perhaps the most visible of the improvements are the 95 low-level pedestrian scale streetlights that span from 18th to 27th avenues NE - creating a safe, pedestrian environment and a link to rear parking areas.

Hennepin Avenue RevitalizationLowry Hill organized a 7-neighborhood planning process that resulted in the Hennepin Avenue Strategic Plan and over $550,000 of NRP investments along the Avenue. Improvements included new pedestrian-level lighting, tree grates, benches, sidewalk improvements, and reconfigured entry points to the Avenue.

Midtown YWCAFive neighborhoods invested more than $1 million of NRP funds in the construction of the $21 million Midtown YWCA Community and Urban Sports Center that provides youth activities, childcare and fitness programs to thousands of residents. Construction of the YWCA spurred development on this previously neglected stretch of Lake Street.1

Hawthorne HuddleHawthorne Neighborhood Council has helped coordinate the Hawthorne Huddle, a community partnership which has significantly reduced crime in the community.
